Old town and Berat Castle

Berat, the city of thousands of windows, is located in the central coastal region of Albania. Old Town and Berat Castle overlook the rivers Osum and Gorc from a steep hill. The old center around the castle and a gradual increase in the height of the houses as you go up towards the fortress, create a unique atmosphere.

Berat Castle is one of the main attractions of the city with its Ottoman influences and a great view of the city. It is popular among the tourists and one can even find the ruins of some bazaar near the entrance. The Castle has almost 10 complexes in it containing several churches and mosques, including the Lead Mosque and Saracen Mosque. The narrow Streets and stone buildings of Old Town are full of life and give a glimpse into the authentic local culture of the city, as well as its Ottoman past. There are several museums and historical buildings in the area such as the Red Mosque, some Ottoman baths, the Ethnographic Museum and the Historic Museum. Other attractions to explore the area are the Sukth Bridge, Gorica Bridge and the 18th century Church of St. Demetrius. The area is undoubtedly a great place to explore, observe and experience the unique Balkan culture.
