Notre Dame de la Mer

Notre Dame de la Mer is a religious sanctuary located in the charming Medieval town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, on the southern coast of France. The sanctuary stands on a rocky promontory and has been a place of pilgrimage since antiquity. The current sanctuary was built in the mid-19th century and is dedicated to the memory ofMary Magdalene and Sarah, mother of the apostles, whose remains were supposedly brought to the town in the 4th century. Today the sanctuary is a popular tourist attraction, known for its breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding desert landscape. From the sanctuary one can enjoy stunning sunsets, breathtaking views of the surrounding flatland and the beautiful regional flora and fauna of the Camargue. On the outside walls of the sanctuary there is an interesting collection of tiles depicting religious figures and scenes that contrast with the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea. Pilgrims from all over Europe come to the sanctuary to pay their respects and pray for the souls of those departed. The sanctuary is a peaceful place filled with the hope and faith of the faithful.
