Monumento a Goya

Monumento a Goya is a bronze sculpture dedicated to the famous Spanish painter Francisco Goya. It stands in an area of Embajadores, Madrid. Designed by artist Francisco Ocampo in 1924, its interpretation of Goya's "Third of May 1808" painting was seen as the symbol of Spain's regenerated democracy. It stands 24 metres tall with Goya's body atop a tall granite column, both standing on a circular pedestal. The sculpture has become a popular photo spot for visitors, famous for its impressive scale and setting. It is located in walking distance from Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor.
