Mississippi State Capitol

The Mississippi State Capitol in Jackson, United States is the seat of the state government in Mississippi. The neoclassical style building was completed in 1903 and is located on top of a hill overlooking the city. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open to the public for tours. A notable feature of the building is the dome, which is made of bronze and weighs some 55 tons. Inside, the state's history is presented in a series of exhibits in the capitol's rotunda. Guided and self-guided tours are available during the facility's operating hours and show the Legislative and Supreme Court Chambers, the Governor's Reception Room, the chambers' antiques, and a variety of artifacts from the Civil War. Historical markers are also located throughout the Capitol grounds.
