Welcome to Meiji Jingu Gate, in Shibuya City, Japan! Located at the entrance to the Meiji Shrine in Yoyogi Park, this iconic landmark is the perfect symbol of Shinto culture. 'Meiji' stands for 'Enlightened Rule', which was how Shinto was guided by the country's leadership at the time. The shrine was built in 1920 and has served as a shrine to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his consort, Empress Shoken. The gate is made of large wooden pillars and is covered in large copper plates that form its roof. Meiji Jingu Gate is easily recognizable from the nearby Yoyogi Station and the streets of Shibuya. While here, visitors can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and explore the shrine grounds. Nearby are acres of lush green gardens and trails, making for a relaxing walking tour. Meiji Jingu Gate is free to enter and makes for an excellent spot to experience Japanese culture.
