Kežmarok Castle

The Kežmarok Castle is situated in the town of Kežmarok in north-central Slovakia. It is a sprawling structure perched atop a large hill overlooking the town and surrounded by lush forests with the High Tatra Mountains in the distance. The castle dates back to the 17th century and is a mix of Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque architecture. Visitors could explore the two courtyards of the complex, where they will find some ruins, including a gothic chapel. The castle once served as one of the largest and most important administrative centers of the region. Inside the walls of the castle, visitors can discover four round towers, a deep well, the remains of several loggia, galleries, the Renaissance balcony, a fortified entrance and several storerooms. Today, the castle hosts a few cultural events during the summer months and can be visited while exploring the town.
