Gornergrat Chapel is a renowned landmark of Zermatt, located at the highest point of the Gornergrat cogwheel railway line. Built in 1890, this chapel dates back to the mid-19th century when the region was becoming more accessible and popular with visitors from around the world. The 12-story building is located at an altitude of 3,133 meters above sea level and is one of the most popular sightseeing locations in Switzerland. From the chapel, visitors can have a breath-taking view of the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and surrounding glaciers. The chapel is open for religious events during summer season and the nearby grocery store serves refreshments to those who are tired from the interminable climbing up the mountains.
