Gateshead bridge lies just between Newcastle and Gateshead on the River Tyne and is one of the region’s most iconic constructions. This majestic steel and concrete arch bridge connects former Shipyards on both sides of the river and was built in 1781. It stands 115 feet tall from the water level and it is 2188 feet long. Today, Gateshead bridge is part of the Flodden Link which connects historic parts of Newcastle and Gateshead and it’s one of many places to explore in the Tyne and Wear area. With historical buildings like Tyne Bridge and Gateshead millennium bridge a walk along the north banks of the river Tyne offers plenty of photo opportunities.
