Dune 45 at Sossusvlei in Namibia is a must-visit for any traveler or photographer exploring the incredible beauty of the country. Located in the Namib Desert, it is a star-shaped sand dune rising some 300 meters from the surrounding plains. Its sand is made of iron-oxide rich grains which make a striking contrast against the piercing blue Namibian sky. Its trackless soft sand is inviting for 4WD exploring and off-road adventures. From the top of Dune 45 you get a wonderful view of dead acacia trees at Deadvlei in the distance. Namibia also boasts some of the darkest night skies in the world, making it perfect for stargazing and astrophotography.
