The iconic twin spires of the Church of Our Lady Before Týn (Kostel Panny Marie před Týnem) have graced the skyline of Staré Město (Old Town) in the heart of historical Prague for centuries. As one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Central Europe, it should be top of any visitor's 'must-see' list when visiting the Czech capital.

The foundation stone of the church - then simply known as the Church of Our Lady - was laid in 1320 and construction completed just over a century later. In the 15th century a bell tower was added to the two towers that were already part of the church, with its two distinctive spires visible from several points in the city skyline. The remarkable interior of the Church of Our Lady Before Týn is divided into two parts, with its lower level tailored to Protestantism following the Hussite period of religious upheaval and the upper conforming more closely to its original Gothic appearance. It is further divided into five main parts - the main chancel and choir, the outer nave and its chapels, the balustrade separating the lower and upper part of the church, and its two towers. Amongst the many highlights of the Church of Our Lady Before Týn, visitors shouldn't miss the Wenzl Windows, a series of stained glass windows by Ladislaus Wencel commissioned in 1582, the tombstone of the 13th century Czech King Ottakar II, and the late Gothic crucifix, believed to have been made in the late 15th century.
