Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar

The vast, breathtaking architecture of Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar and Torre de San Francisco de Borja in Zaragoza, Spain, is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks and a top destination for religious devotees, travelers, and photographers.

The Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar is a Baroque-style church that was constructed in the early 1600s and stands tall against the city skyline. This impressive structure is divided into five naves, with eight domes and four large towers that give an incomparable air of grandeur. Inside, visitors can explore the impressive Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, the Grotto of the Virgin and the high altar. The Torre de San Francisco de Borja, which is located right next to the Basilica, was originally constructed in the 17th century to defend the nearby Cathedral of the Savior. The 96-meter tall tower was restored not long ago and can be seen from many spots around Zaragoza. Forty four wooden steps lead to the very top of the tower, from where visitors can get a 360-degree view of the city as far as the Mijares Mountain range on a clear day.
