Arenal Volcano

Arenal Volcano is an active volcano located in San Ramón, Costa Rica. Rising to 5,437 feet, Arenal is one of the most iconic natural landmarks in the country. It's cone-shaped peak dominates the landscape, and it is surrounded by lush rainforest, hot springs and miles of trails around the base to explore.

Home to a variety of exotic plants and wildlife, the rainforest that surrounds the volcano attracts photographers and nature-lovers alike. From macaws to jaguars, Arenal teems with life. Pristine streams, rivers and waterfalls are also found dotted around the surrounding area. Adventurers can explore the volcano’s national park by bike, car, or foot to discover its remarkable hot springs, thermal pools, and lava flows. Volcano Arenal Observatory Lodge, which is perched atop a hill near the peak, provides a stunning view of the volcano, and provides a great vantage point for sunset views. In addition to its natural beauty, Arenal also offers plenty of activities such as rappelling, zip lining, white water rafting, canyoning and kayaking. There are also plenty of nearby charming towns and villages full of colorful colonial-style architecture and friendly locals.
