Alcazaba de Almería is a fortress located in Almería, Spain. It was built by the Moors in the 10th century along with the Torre y Muralla Tardorromana. It is one of the most well-preserved medieval fortifications in the Iberian Peninsula. The Alcazaba consists of a double walled enclosure which encloses a mosque, a tower, and two interior patios. Inside the walls, there is a residential quarter with many towers and a fountain. Visitors can explore the ancient walls, the royal baths and many tunnels that were used during times of distress. The Torre y Muralla Tardorromana is also known as the ‘Red Castle’ due to its reddish hue. It is located on the eastbrink of the city and was constructed during the 12th century. It was built as a defensive measure and to strengthen the city's port. Visitors can enjoy a beautiful view of Almería bay, and wander around its ruins.
