
Zugspitze, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany is the highest mountain in Germany and the crowning jewel of the Bavarian Alps. With an altitude of 2,962 m (9,718 ft) above sea level, it is crowned by Germany's highest mountain station and several glaciers. The mountain is best known for the Zugspitze Tower, one of Germany's most popular tourist attractions, with a viewing platform, an alpine slide, skywalk, and a restaurant, as well as great views into Austria. The mountain can be reached by cable car from the Höllental valley in summer and winter, and also by cogwheel train from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and through a tunnel from Eibsee from spring to winter. There are many popular ski areas and high alpine hiking trails on the eastern and western sides of the mountain. With its unique mix of forests, peaks, and valleys, Zugspitze is a great destination for hikers, skiers, and photographers alike.
