Zeelandbrug Bridge
📍 Netherlands
Zeelandbrug Bridge, in Zierikzee, Netherlands, is a historic brug, or bridge, built over an estuary of the Zeekanaal, or the Zeeland Channel, in the region of the same name in the southwestern part of the country. It is the longest and oldest movable bridge in Europe. Built in 1933, the arch-style bridge still affords passage to heavy ships, while also allowing pedestrians and small cars to cross. The original Zeelandbrug Bridge was built in 1348, when Zierikzee was still an important part of the Dutch Republic. Today, the bridge offers a picturesque view of the town, with its surrounding waterways and its harbor area. Its powder-blue and muted gray shades blend seamlessly with the waters of the estuary, creating a postcard-perfect image. The bridge is a popular spot for those visiting nearby attractions such as the Waterpoort or the Walking Town Muzierik, which offers a unique view of the surrounding area. From the beach, visitors can admire the grand splendor of the bridge, contrasting against a bright Netherlands sky.
