📍 Slovakia
Zadný Gerlach is a 2,616-metre summit in Slovakia’s High Tatras, immediately northwest of Gerlachovský štít, the country’s highest mountain. Its name means “Rear Gerlach,” reflecting its position behind the dominant peak in the rugged Gerlach massif. Sharp granite ridges, steep glacial hollows and lingering snowfields give the mountain a severe, layered profile, especially when seen against the surrounding valleys and neighboring summits. No marked hiking trail reaches the top; it lies within Tatra National Park, where off-trail access is regulated, and the summit is approached as a mountaineering objective rather than a standard hike.
