Yubeng is a remote Tibetan village in Deqin County, within Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwestern Yunnan. Divided into Upper and Lower Yubeng, its traditional houses and cultivated fields occupy a high mountain valley beneath the glaciated summits of the Meili Snow Mountain range. The settlement lies within a sacred landscape associated with Kawagarbo, revered by Tibetan Buddhists, and serves as a starting point for routes to the Sacred Waterfall and Ice Lake. Photographs often emphasize the dramatic scale of the setting: dark timber roofs and field patterns in the foreground, dense conifer forest on the slopes, and snow peaks rising sharply beyond the valley. Low clouds, mist and shifting mountain light can transform the same view within minutes.
