York Castle is a medieval fort situated in Tangier, Morocco. Constructed in the early 16th century, it is one of the oldest fortifications in the country and an important landmark in the city. It is made of a thick stone wall, with bastions and trapezoidal towers making up four main points of defense. The interior contains the garrison, mosque, military and administrative offices, dungeons, and magazines. Today, York Castle serves as a museum of Spanish-Moroccan culture, and is frequently visited by tourists and locals alike. Its gardens feature a variety of flowers, trees and palms, as well as a large fish pond. The walls around the castle also display monuments and decoration honoring the city’s past. From the ramparts you can take in the breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Strait of Gibraltar.
