Yaquina Head Lighthouse is located on the Oregon coast at the entrance to Yaquina Bay and near the city of Newport. This active lighthouse was first lit in 1873 and is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon, standing at 57 feet (17 m) tall. It stands on a rugged and rocky piece of landscape, giving excellent views of the Pacific Ocean and nearby cliffs. The lighthouse buildings and grounds are part of the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, a park administered by the Bureau of Land Management and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. Visitors will find a scenic interpretive center, wildlife refuge and the Oregon Coast Aquarium nearby. At the Lighthouse, visitors may take meandering pathways and trails through the grounds, marvel at its spectacular sunsets and listen to the distinct call of the sea birds that nest at the lighthouse. During open hours, you can also go to the top of the Lighthouse for stunning views of the Oregon Coast.
