Würm River
📍 Germany
The Würm is the short but defining outflow of Starnberger See, leaving the lake at the town of Starnberg and running north as the Bavarian river that later becomes a tributary of the Amper. Its significance is local and hydrological: it drains one of Bavaria’s largest lakes and marks a shift from open-water panoramas to an intimate, narrow river landscape. Visually the Würm in Starnberg is characterized by calm, reflective water, willow and linden-lined banks and low pedestrian bridges that create repeated horizontal lines and mirrored symmetry in the surface. Light often skims the flat water at low angles, making autumn colors and rippled reflections especially striking; easy riverside paths put close viewpoints and framed compositions within reach.
