📍 From Yakushima Island, Japan
Wilson's Stump is a historic, natural landmark located on Yakushima, Japan. It is an enormous 1000 year old cedar tree with a massive and seemingly uncut stump. The tree is over 43 meters tall and is believed to have grown more than 200 years ago on the site. Although the tree has died, it still stands as an impressive, natural monument in the forest. The best way to take in Wilson's Stump is to visit the nearby Shinrinza park which offers breathtaking views of the tree and the surrounding forest. You can also take a 1.3 km trail to get to the tree and take amazing photos of it. Despite the imposing size of Wilson's Stump, it is a much-loved symbol of Yakushima's history and culture and should not be missed if you visit the area.
