
The Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) is one of the world's greatest opera houses, having premiered works by Verdi, Wagner, Puccini, Strauss and Mozart. The building was completed in 1869 and is an example of grand neoclassical architecture. Inside, the auditorium is richly adorned and features four tiers of seating, original chandeliers and a grand organ. From outside, the majestic facade with its ionic columns and ornamental balconies can be admired. The Vienna State Opera regularly hosts performances of opera, ballet, and orchestra concerts. Usually, over 200 events are held each season making it a must-see for any opera fan or traveler to Vienna. Tickets are often hard to come by, but there are daily stand-by tickets available for purchase.
