📍 From Old Tygh Valley power house, United States
White River Falls is a broad, tiered cascade in White River Falls State Park, a few miles east of Tygh Valley in north-central Oregon. The White River descends from Mount Hood’s glacial slopes before cutting through the dry basalt country on its way to the Deschutes River, creating a vivid contrast between foaming water and the surrounding tawny canyon. From the rim, the upper drop and stair-stepped cascades form the recognizable composition; below, the remains of an early hydroelectric plant add an industrial layer to the landscape’s history. Spring runoff brings the greatest volume, while lower summer flows reveal more of the dark volcanic rock and the falls’ structure.
