White River Falls is a broad cascade in north-central Oregon, near Tygh Valley and Maupin, within White River Falls State Park. The river drops roughly 90 feet over basalt ledges, creating a sharp visual contrast between white water, dark volcanic rock, and the dry grasslands surrounding the canyon. Below the falls, the remains of a former hydroelectric plant recall the river’s role in supplying electricity to nearby communities. Views from the canyon rim reveal the width of the main cascade and the rugged terrain below, while changing river levels alter how the water divides around the exposed rock.
