Westruper Heide, near Haltern am See in Germany, is a large heathland and forests located in the beautiful North Rhine-Westphalia region. The heathland covers an area of approx. 1000 hectares and is surrounded by a varied landscape of fields and meadows, pastures and woodlands. There are two large woodlands that are particularly worth visiting – Fördebruch in the south and Reggellwood in the north. The area is home to a diverse range of animals, including rabbits, hares, game birds, lizards and various species of birds of prey. There are several trails that pass through the area, offering visitors plenty of opportunity to explore the heathland. Exploring the region on foot is particularly recommendable, to fully appreciate the beautiful landscape, flora and fauna. Popular activities in the area include hiking, cycling,horse riding, bird watching and nature photography.
