📍 United States
West Fork Oak Creek is a wooded tributary canyon branching from Oak Creek Canyon north of Sedona, Arizona, within Coconino National Forest. Its stream runs beneath steep sandstone walls, creating a shaded landscape that contrasts with Sedona’s open red-rock country. The West Fork Trail follows the water through the lower canyon, crossing it repeatedly on stepping stones and passing beneath rock faces sculpted into curves and overhangs. For photographs, the defining contrast is between the canyon’s towering red and cream walls and the intimate details below: exposed roots, rounded creek stones, and reflections in quiet pools. Autumn adds yellow, orange, and red foliage from the canyon’s deciduous trees. The trail begins at the Call of the Canyon day-use area beside State Route 89A.
