📍 Thailand
Wat Phra That Doi Kham is a hilltop Buddhist temple in Mae Hia, southwest of central Chiang Mai, overlooking the city’s broad plain and Royal Park Rajapruek. Its name means “Temple of the Golden Mountain,” and its gilded chedi and richly decorated roofs belong to northern Thailand’s Lanna Buddhist tradition. A large white seated Buddha provides a striking sense of scale beside the temple buildings, while naga serpent balustrades frame the stairway. The Luang Pho Than Jai shrine is closely associated with prayers for good fortune and offerings of jasmine garlands, adding a distinctive devotional scene to the architectural setting. Views from the terrace place the temple’s gold ornament against the spread of Chiang Mai below, linking this hillside sanctuary visually to the city it overlooks.
