Washington Monument is an impressive structure located in the National Mall in Washington, DC. This obelisk-style, stone and marble structure stands at a height of 169 meters, making it the world's tallest stone structure and the world's tallest obelisk. It honors the first president of the United States, George Washington and bears his name. The foundation of the Monument is 55 meters and was built between 1848 and 1884. Visitors can climb the 897 steps to view Washington DC from the top of the Monument. On the ground level, there is the Museum of History and Technology where visitors can explore the history of the Monument and Washington DC. There are also exhibits including artifacts from George Washington's life. The Monument is open to the public, and there are no admission fees.
