📍 United Kingdom
Warwick Castle rises above the River Avon beside Warwick’s historic town centre. Founded as a Norman motte-and-bailey fortress in 1068, it was rebuilt in stone and expanded over centuries into both a formidable stronghold and an aristocratic residence for the Earls of Warwick. Its history is closely linked to Richard Neville, the “Kingmaker,” a major figure in the Wars of the Roses. Massive curtain walls, the gatehouse, and the contrasting forms of Caesar’s and Guy’s towers create a distinctive medieval silhouette, while later state rooms reveal the castle’s evolution into a grand country house. Riverside views emphasize the scale of the fortifications, and the pale stone, lawns, mature trees, and reflections on the Avon give exterior photographs a layered sense of landscape and architecture.
