Wangjing SOHO is an office and retail complex in Wangjing, a major residential and business district in northeastern Beijing’s Chaoyang District. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and completed in 2014, its three rounded, tapering towers give the neighborhood a distinctive skyline, contrasting with the straighter outlines of surrounding buildings. Horizontal ribbons of glass and pale aluminium wrap around the curved façades, emphasizing their flowing contours and changing widths. From the landscaped spaces at their base, the towers overlap and separate as the viewpoint shifts, making the gaps between them as visually important as the buildings themselves. Wide views reveal the ensemble’s pebble-like forms, while closer compositions bring out the sweeping bands and reflections across the glazing.
