Wadi Rum Protected Area spreads beyond Wadi Rum Village, the main gateway to this desert landscape in southern Jordan. A UNESCO World Heritage property for both natural and cultural significance, it is shaped by sandstone and granite massifs rising abruptly from broad valleys of red sand. Rock arches, narrow canyons, ancient inscriptions and petroglyphs record long human use of the region, while Bedouin communities remain central to its living culture. Photographs are defined by scale: tiny figures and vehicles beneath sheer cliffs, wind-marked dunes, and warm light intensifying the rock’s ochre and rust tones. Clear horizons also make the area known for expansive night skies. Travel beyond the village and visitor centre is generally arranged with local guides using 4x4 vehicles, camels, or hiking routes.
