📍 Jordan
Wadi Rum is a desert landscape of sandstone and granite mountains in southern Jordan, with Wadi Rum Village lying at the foot of Jebel Rum. Broad sandy valleys separate sheer cliffs, isolated rock towers and natural arches, creating the monumental scale that makes the area recognizable in photographs and films such as Lawrence of Arabia. Rock carvings and inscriptions record thousands of years of human presence, while local Bedouin communities remain part of the desert’s living culture. Red dunes gather against weathered rock faces, and narrow canyons reveal textures and layers less visible in the open valleys. Low-angle sunlight brings out the cliffs’ ochre and rust tones, while people, camels and vehicles provide a striking measure of their height.
