📍 From Drone, Germany
The Wachenburg, also known as the Schloss Wachenburg and the Freiherrin-von-Sponeck-Stift, is situated on a hilltop and overlooks the German town of Weinheim. The building, constructed from 1908 to 1912, is a cultural monument that was initially built as a weekend retreat for members of the German Students' Association (GSA). One of the most exciting experiences many visitors have here is taking part in the audio tour wherein you can explore the entrance hall and grand staircase, the living quarters of the proprietors, and the banquet hall. There is a terrace that offers magnificent views of the valley below and the various attractions of the town. There is also a museum below the castle, highlighting many of the GSA’s historic artifacts. Although the museum is only open through the summer season, it is still a great opportunity to learn more about the castle’s history. Wachenburg is a great stop for anyone looking to explore Weinheim’s cultural and historical heritage!
