📍 Netherlands
The Waalbrug carries the N325 across the River Waal, linking central Nijmegen with Lent on the north bank. Opened in 1936, its sweeping steel arch became a defining element of the city’s riverfront and a strategic crossing during the Battle of Nijmegen in 1944. The bridge is especially recognizable from the Waalkade and the riverside paths around Lent, where its broad span frames passing barges and Nijmegen’s elevated skyline. Low light emphasizes the latticework and long approach spans, while calm conditions can produce fragmented reflections in the Waal’s fast-moving surface.
