Vostochnyy Tsentr Dal'ney Kosmicheskoy Svyazi, or “Eastern Centre of Long-distance Space Communication” is located in the tiny village of Galenki, Russia and is the largest of its kind in the country. It traces its history back to Soviet-era space exploration, when the Centre was created in 1962 to collect and analyze data from the USSR’s space program. It remains the most comprehensive and comprehensive space site of its kind in Russia, and still tracks data from the International Space Station. The Centre offers a fascinating look at the history of the Soviet space program and the technology that paved the way for a new era of space exploration. The facility houses an informative museum, a library, a mock-up of a space capsule, and three huge dishes that handle all sorts of data from satellite communication. Visitors are also allowed to explore the rich cultural and historical heritage that lies within the walls of the Centre.
