Vodovzvodnaya Bashnya (Water Tower) is a unique structure located in Moscow, Russia. Commissioned in 1927 by architect Nikolai Markovnikov, the tower is a piece of modernist architecture, and its purpose was to supply the waters of the Moscow Canal with clean drinking water. Its most distinctive and impressive feature is its 70m-high open framework steel structure, which offers a stunning panoramic view of the Russian capital. The tower covers two levels and its central valve chamber is on the second level. There are two viewing platforms, which offer a beautiful panoramic view of the Moscow Canal and the Moscow River, and the historic Lefortovo houses across the other side of the canal. The tower is a popular destination for photography, both during the day and at night. Moreover, the Art Deco bridge spanning the Moscow River near the tower is an excellent viewpoint for photos of the structure.
