Miradouro do Suberco is the cliff-top lookout in Sítio, Nazaré’s historic upper quarter, overlooking the lower town, its main beach and the Atlantic. Nearby, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré reflects Sítio’s longstanding importance as a place of pilgrimage, while the funicular connects this elevated neighborhood with the seafront below. The view is recognizable for the broad sweep of Praia da Nazaré, the dense pattern of white buildings and terracotta roofs, and the contrast between the steep headland and the open ocean. Looking down from the cliff emphasizes the scale of the beach and the town’s close relationship with the coast. Praia do Norte, associated with Nazaré’s giant waves, lies on the other side of the promontory; the panorama here centers on the main urban waterfront.
