From Monte Sivai, these vistas look across the Sierra Madre de Chiapas, the mountain chain that runs through southern Chiapas parallel to Mexico’s Pacific coast and continues toward Guatemala. Its steep, forested relief forms a succession of ridges and valleys, visually separating the coastal lowlands from the state’s interior. In photographs, the scene is defined by overlapping blue-green silhouettes, deep folds in the terrain, and clouds or mist gathering on the higher slopes; shifting light reveals the scale of the range more clearly than any single summit.
