📍 From Þjóðvegur route, Iceland
Vík í Mýrdal Church, in Vík, Iceland, is a small wooden Lutheran church, built near the beach in Vík, an area of the country renowned for its dramatic beauty. The church was built in 1934 to replace the old turf church, which had become too small for the area's growing congregation. The church features a stepped gable, a steep ruler and a traditional nave with a cross over the main entrance. Inside, the church is adorned with several pieces of art, including a painting of the Nativity and a sculpture of Christ and the Virgin Mary. Despite its small size, the interior still manages to feel spacious, and visitors will find a calm, contemplative atmosphere. The views of Dyrhólaey, Reynisdrangar and Mýrdalsjökull from Vík í Mýrdal Church are spectacular and make it a wonderful place to visit, no matter what time of year you go!
