From Randa in the Mattertal, the Weisshorn dominates the western side of the valley with its sharply defined, three-sided summit rising to 4,505 metres. One of the highest peaks in the Pennine Alps, it forms a dramatic contrast with Randa’s timber houses, larch-covered slopes and the deep valley floor between Visp and Zermatt. Its pale rock ridges and hanging glaciers create strong textures, while changing cloud often reveals the mountain in fragments before the full pyramid appears. The east-facing side catches early light, giving broad views from around the village a clear progression from shaded valley to bright alpine summit.
