The Valgaudemar valley surrounds La Chapelle-en-Valgaudémar in the Hautes-Alpes, on the western side of Écrins National Park. Carved by glaciers and followed by the Séveraisse River, this steep Alpine corridor is enclosed by rugged massifs including the Olan and Sirac. Its views combine dark rock walls, larch-covered slopes, waterfalls, scattered hamlets and high summits that can retain snow well into the warmer months. From the village and the road toward the upper valley, the narrowing landscape creates strong layers of river, forest and mountain, while changing light emphasizes the scale and rough textures of the terrain.
