Views of Rose Valley overlook Güllüdere, a sculpted Cappadocian landscape near Göreme in Nevşehir. Wind and water have carved layers of volcanic tuff into rippled cliffs, narrow ravines, cones and fairy chimneys, while rock-cut churches and pigeon houses record centuries of human use within the valley walls. Iron-rich tones give parts of the terrain their pink and russet color, especially when low sunlight grazes the ridges and deepens the shadows between formations. From higher paths, the valley reads as a sequence of folded slopes punctuated by pale stone pinnacles, cultivated plots and distant Cappadocian settlements.
