📍 United States
Pikes Peak rises to 14,115 feet west of Colorado Springs, anchoring the city’s skyline at the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains. The broad, often snow-streaked summit stands above the lower ridges and red sandstone formations of the surrounding region, creating a distinctive contrast between high alpine terrain and the plains stretching eastward. Katharine Lee Bates’s 1893 journey to the summit inspired the poem that became “America the Beautiful.” From Colorado Springs, morning light often defines the mountain’s layered slopes, while changing cloud, snow, and haze can transform its scale and color throughout the seasons.
