The views around Gudauri stretch across the high Greater Caucasus, where the Georgian Military Highway climbs through broad alpine slopes above the Aragvi valley. Much of the landscape is open and treeless, giving the mountains an imposing scale and revealing layers of ridges, ravines, ski runs, and distant snowfields. In winter, white slopes and moving skiers define the scene; in warmer months, the same terrain becomes green pasture streaked with exposed rock. Fast-changing cloud and sunlight often create strong contrasts, while viewpoints along the highway frame the winding road against the surrounding peaks.
