📍 United Kingdom
From Caernarfon, Eryri forms a dramatic mountain backdrop beyond the low coastal landscape of north-west Wales. The historic town stands beside the Menai Strait and the River Seiont, while the peaks and ridges of Eryri rise inland to the east and south-east, linking Caernarfon visually with the Welsh-speaking heartland around it. Layered silhouettes, exposed rock and fast-changing Atlantic cloud give the view much of its character; in clear weather, distant summits appear sharply defined, while mist often reduces the range to a sequence of soft, receding ridges. Caernarfon’s medieval castle walls and waterfront can add a strong architectural foreground to the mountain skyline.
