Field is a small railway community in Yoho National Park, set in the Kicking Horse River valley beneath the steep walls of the Canadian Rockies. Mount Stephen rises sharply above the town, while forested slopes, exposed sedimentary rock and lingering snow emphasize the immense vertical scale of the landscape. Field developed with the Canadian Pacific Railway, and the tracks and passing freight trains remain a distinctive part of the view, creating a striking contrast between human infrastructure and the surrounding peaks. From around the village, photographs often layer colorful houses, rail lines and conifers against rugged mountain faces, with low cloud and changing light revealing the ridges and textures of the rock.
