📍 Germany
From Oberstdorf, the Allgäu Alps rise around the southern end of the Iller valley, close to Germany’s border with Austria. The landscape combines pale limestone summits, steep green slopes and long side valleys carved by the Breitach, Stillach and Trettach rivers. Distinctive forms such as the sharp Trettachspitze and the broad Nebelhorn give the skyline its identity, while alpine pastures and scattered huts reveal the region’s long farming tradition. Views change markedly with the seasons: spring snow lingers above vivid meadows, summer brings deep greens, autumn warms the slopes, and winter reduces the scene to dark forest, white ridges and strong mountain silhouettes. Elevated viewpoints emphasize the layered ranges, while valley-level scenes frame the peaks above Oberstdorf’s roofs and church tower.
