The views from Taormina’s Teatro Antico unite archaeology with the eastern Sicilian landscape. Built into the hillside above the town, the theatre has Greek origins and was substantially reshaped under Roman rule. Beyond its surviving stage wall, columns and weathered brick arches, the panorama opens toward the Ionian Sea, the Bay of Naxos and Mount Etna. This layering of ancient masonry, coastline and the volcano makes the scene immediately recognizable: arches act as natural frames, while Etna’s appearance changes with cloud, haze and seasonal snow. The theatre remains a performance venue, so events can alter access to parts of the site.
