📍 Israel
Ya’ar Shveitz, or Swiss Forest, spreads across the steep hillsides above Tiberias, overlooking the Sea of Galilee from the west. Its elevated viewpoints reveal the city descending toward the shoreline, the lake’s broad curve, the Jordan Valley to the south, and the Golan Heights rising beyond the water. The forest is closely tied to efforts to stabilize the once-bare slopes above Tiberias, where runoff and erosion posed serious risks to the city below. For photography, the contrast between wooded foregrounds, pale urban blocks, cultivated valley fields, and blue water gives the scene unusual depth. The east-facing panorama is especially recognizable when low light defines the Golan ridges or reflections soften the lake’s surface.
