📍 Sweden
Stockholm City Hall stands on the southeastern edge of Kungsholmen, overlooking Riddarfjärden, a bay of Lake Mälaren. Designed by Ragnar Östberg and completed in 1923, the red-brick building is a landmark of Swedish National Romantic architecture and the setting for the Nobel Prize banquet. From its waterfront grounds, views stretch toward Riddarholmen and Södermalm, with Riddarholmen Church’s openwork spire forming a distinctive silhouette across the water. The tower offers a wider panorama of Gamla Stan’s tightly grouped roofs and the waterways separating central Stockholm’s islands. At ground level, the lakeside arcade frames the scene with repeated brick arches, contrasting the building’s solid masonry with open water and passing boats. Tower visits are seasonal, so the elevated panorama is not available year-round.
